Catholic priest, Padre Evarist Mushi of Minara Miwili Catholic church’s parish in Mtoni, Zanzibar was shot and killed by unidentified gunment who were on a Vespa motorcycle.
According to millardayo.com, the asailant fired a single bullet into father Mushi’s head and fled the scene on their motorcycle.
“Father Evarist Mushi was blocked by two young men at the entrance of the church, one of the attackers shot him in the head,” said the island’s police spokesman Mohammed Mhina.
This is a second attack on a Catholic priest in semi-autonomous Zanzibar archipelago in the past few months. On Christmas Day, gunmen shot and seriously wounded a Catholic priest as he returned home from church.
It is not clear if the two attacks were linked, or religiously motivated.
Father Mushi was shot as he was stepping outside of his car on his way to the church to lead Sunday’s service.
